Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the team access locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This means them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.
Viewers can anticipate finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
