The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

As any prominent prize-giving event nears, one notices an outcry for the addition fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and delight the passions of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer previously argued for a horror game category. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of video games, showing incredible range they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles published annually that have no home at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience rivals popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Just like movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
