The Video Platform Provides Viewers Power to Reduce Artificial Intelligence-Made Content in Their Feeds

Users will soon have a new feature that enables them to lessen the volume of AI-made content appearing in their feeds. This move comes as the platform disclosed that it currently hosts over 1 thousand million content made with AI.

Trial and Implementation

The new functionality is being tested over the next few weeks before a widespread launch. This advancement comes amid a rise in content created by AI, driven by recent AI video creators.

AI Content on Other Platforms

It has been noted that almost one in 10 of the fastest-growing content creators on another major platform primarily display content made by AI. A large amount of this output is deemed mass-produced AI material, a term for substandard, mass-produced content that is often absurd or dreamlike.

Based on user feedback that many people like content made with AI tools, including computer-generated images to informative clips, and we want to offer the community the power to see more or less of that, based on their own preferences,” commented a spokesperson.

Scale of AI Content

TikTok shared that there are currently 1.3bn videos on its network labeled as artificially created. Collectively, over 100 mn media items are uploaded to the service every day, making AI content a relatively small portion of its complete catalog.

User Control Features

Members will be in a position to reduce or increase the amount of AI content they view by using the “manage topic” option in the application and selecting the AI content topic. Other topics that can already be modified under the tool cover current affairs, style, cosmetics, and movement.

AI Disclosure Rules

TikTok’s policies require creators to identify “realistic” AI-made content, and it bans dangerous fake videos of celebrities or critical incidents. Any believable AI video that is not labeled can be removed under its terms of service.

Furthermore, the app will from now on add an AI-generated watermark to content produced via its own AI tools, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for identifying AI-generated material. This measure is designed to stop users from attempting to circumvent the disclosure requirement.

AI Literacy Programs

The platform is also establishing a two million dollar AI literacy fund for specialists and institutions to develop informative material about using AI responsibly. This initiative will benefit educational bodies specializing in training computer science.

Content Safety Approach

The video-sharing app has supported its safety measures, amid discussion over intentions to cut jobs for numerous content moderators in the UK. TikTok is expected to cut hundreds of positions in its content moderation team in its British office, with labor groups and digital protection specialists voicing alarm that humans are being replaced by machine-led review.

A senior executive clarified that human moderation would remain essential, but AI can protect employees by filtering out the most harmful content prior to it gets reviewed by people. The company stated a notable drop in shocking and graphic content seen by human moderators over the last 12 months due to the use of its machine learning processes.

We believe it is crucial to balance people and machines to maintain a secure environment,” the executive stated. “We’ll have humans as part of that process, but we further consider it’s highly necessary to limit contact with dangerous material as rapidly, which is where a significant AI assistance is proving valuable operate efficiently.”
